In the surroundings of the Sporthotel Teresa, you should not miss...
Sotciastel
Two minutes away and in the heart of Badia, the fortified settlement Sotciastel dates back to 1600 B.C. and is the earliest evidence of the presence of Ladin populations in Alta Badia. Findings in the 1980s of traces of civilised life dating back to the Mesolithic and the Bronze Age reinforced the already great bond of the Ladin people with their land. Some of the archaeological artefacts found at this site are preserved in the Ladin Museum in Ciastel de Tor.
Ursus Ladinicus Museum in San Cassiano
Sporthotel Teresa is only 6 km from the Ursus Ladinicus Museum. The story of how the museum was established around a figure somewhere between biology and legend is unique: take advantage of your stay to discover all its secrets! By pure chance, in 1987, a citizen of San Cassiano discovered a deep cave at an altitude of 2800 metres, not far from the town centre. The cave contained unique remains including the skeleton of an ancient prehistoric bear and a cave lion. The site of the find, the Conturines Cave, is a 4-hour walk from the village and can only be accessed during organised guided tours. The ascent to the cave is challenging but the eventual gratification rewards the effort. For those who enjoy comfort and have other plans, the visit to the museum is quick and comprehensive, with a full-size model of the large prehistoric animal and many other artefacts contextualised in captivating settings.
Ladin Museum Ciastel de Tor
Just 12 km from the Sporthotel Teresa in San Martino, you find the Ladin Museum Ciastel de Tor. Once the seat of power and jurisdictional apex of the entire Val Badia, today, the castle has retained the charm of the ancient splendour that made it a symbol first of the fiefdom and then of the Bressanone bishopric. Today, the castle is home to the Ladin Museum, a place representative of Ladin culture and tradition that is still strongly felt among the more than 30,000 inhabitants of the Ladin Dolomite valleys.
Holy Cross Hospice
This little church stands at the foot of the Santa Croce rock, just 8 km from the Sporthotel Teresa. You can choose to reach it by car through the marvellous woods or by using the convenient chairlift: first the Santa Croce and then the Crusc, which connect the heart of Pedraces to a solitary destination for religious pilgrimages and the starting point for paths and ferrate. In 1840, after the recovery of the ruins by a farmer from Badia, the citizens brought an image of Christ to the sanctuary. Since then, every 15th of June, a procession celebrates the consecration of this site, reminding the new generations that man can do anything if one respects the mountain.
Les Viles
We invite you to lose yourself among the slopes of our valley, to discover these fascinating settlements, both typical and perfectly in tune with modern living today. The spaces in front are usually for communal use, there are fountains and wood-burning ovens, drinking troughs and carved benches, in front of which to share a good glass of wine while listening to the stories and legends of this valley.
Rules have marked the preservation of the common good as the main objective of the inhabitants of these valleys. The woods are tidy and the meadows well mowed because this is how it must be for the good of the cattle that shelter there and the firs that grow free of brushwood. The thousand-year relationship with the land that the Ladin people treasure is captivating. Let yourself be swept away by this people's love for nature and soon you will discover that you have learnt to love it yourself.
